Dodgers vs. Yankees score, live updates: Los Angeles aims to win the World Series in Game 4 in New York

The New York Yankees have their backs against the wall in New York on Tuesday as the Los Angeles Dodgers try to complete a World Series victory – their first since 2012 – and secure a second title under manager Dave Roberts. It was a dismal series for the Yankees' greatest slugger, as Aaron Judge batted just .083 and went 1-for-12 with seven strikeouts in the first three games of that series. He's not the only Yankee struggling; The Bronx Bombers are batting just .186 as a team in the series, despite both Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto swinging the bat well.

If you're a Dodgers fan, Game 4 of The Freddie Freeman Show could be a crowning achievement in Los Angeles for the former Atlanta star, who joins Hank as just the third player to hit home runs in the first three games of a World Series Bauer (1958 Yankees) and Barry Bonds (2002 Giants) – and he added another in the first inning of Game 4, making him the first player ever to hit a home run in the first four games of a World Series. Freeman has actually hit a home run in his last six World Series games, starting with his 2021 World Series win with the Braves.

Luis Gil (1-0, 4.50 ERA, 4.0 IP, 3 K, 3 BB in the 2024 postseason) is on the mound for the Yankees, their season on the line, while the Dodgers pass the ball to Ben Casparius (1-0) passed, 0.00 ERA, 4.1 IP, 4 K, 2 BB).

Live77 updates

  • Weaver swings out Betts with only six outs remaining.

  • And Luke Weaver faces Mookie Betts with a man on second and two outs.

  • Wells provides key insurance

Austin Wells has been up and down the lineup lately as manager Aaron Boone has weighed Wells' offensive woes against Jose Trevino's defensive performance, but the reality is that Wells' offensive production is significantly higher, even with him gets cold.

Swings like the one Wells used to send a Landon Knack heater to the second deck in right field are a fond reminder of that. This could be a huge insurance run for the Yankees, who now have a two-run cushion with nine outs left to avoid elimination.

  • Shohei Ohtani swings and misses ball four in the full count. He can clearly swing a bat, but it feels like the shoulder injury may be affecting him.

  • Knack struck out the next three batters on eight pitches, capped by a strikeout from Juan Soto. Mark Leiter Jr. comes in to face the 8-9-1 Dodgers lineup.

  • Yankees 6, Dodgers 4

Austin Wells led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run after narrowly missing the fly ball that led to Volpe's baserunning gaffe. He was 4 of 43 in the postseason entering this game.

A much-needed insurance run for the Yankees.

  • Holmes went 1-2-3 in the sixth inning. Nine more outs for the Yankees to force a Game 5.

  • Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Fox's Joe Davis hold a sign for Dodgers radio announcer Charley Steiner during the “Stand up to Cancer” segment. Steiner missed this season because he was battling multiple myeloma blood cancer. Now confined to a wheelchair, he has lost 50 pounds and suffers from constant back pain. However, it was recently announced that he was in remission.

    All the best to him.

  • Knack manages to keep the bottom of the fifth round scoreless. Clay Holmes stays in to face the Dodgers' 5-6-7 hitters.

  • Aaron Judge reached on an error by Tommy Edman and Jazz Chisholm Jr. walked to get two ons with no outs and Giancarlo Stanton singled off Landon Knack in the fifth. Great opportunity for some insurance starts.

  • Hernández flies out on the first pitch and the Yankees will advance with a run in the bottom of the fifth. You'll want to add to that.

  • The sloppy Americans strike again

A terrible feed from Gleyber Torres on this potential double play results in a run. Freddie Freeman and his injured ankle failed down the first base line, hitting a throw from Anthony Volpe that would have made it out with a better throw from Torres.

Instead, the Dodgers added another run and cut the Yankees' lead to just one after a solo shot by Will Smith early in the inning.

  • And now the Yankees are drafting Tim Hill for Clay Holmes, who faces Teoscar Hernández at first. This is a lot more interesting than Yankees fans would want after Volpe's grand slam.

  • Yankees 5, Dodgers 4

The call is overturned, and that's another run for the Dodgers, who have now wiped out two double plays via challenge. There is an on with two outs.

  • Mookie Betts scores on a fielder's choice, and then Freddie Freeman scores on what looked like a double play. However, the replay shows he was safe and the Dodgers are now challenging the call for now.

  • Shohei Ohtani welcomes Tim Hill with a line-drive single, and the Dodgers have the green light at the plate with no outs.

  • All in all, this was a solid start for Luis Gil, who had only pitched once in the past month. He limited the walks as few expected, and the runs against him were limited to two big swings. It's better than other starts the Yankees have received in this series.
