Former NFL QB Chase Daniel says Anthony Richardson has lost everyone's respect

Former NFL QB Chase Daniel says Anthony Richardson has lost everyone's respect

It was announced on Tuesday that the Indianapolis Colts were benching the fourth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Anthony Richardson, in favor of 30-year-old Joe Flacco.

This came just days after Richardson was briefly benched during the Colts' 23-20 loss to the Houston Texans and later said he asked to leave the game because he was tired.

That didn't impress too many people, and it certainly didn't impress former NFL QB Chase Daniel, who resented Richardson for losing the respect of those around him.

Daniel – who played in the league from 2010 to 2022 during stints with the Saints, Chiefs, Bears, Chargers, Lions and Eagles – spoke with us The Athletics Diana Russini on Richardson telling the press he was gassed.

“Lie,” Daniel said. “Lie to the media. Never say that again in your entire career. They just lost the respect of every football player, every quarterback and every offensive lineman that ever played the game,” Daniel said.

“I'm tough, Dianna, but that's what this thing requires. I've never seen this in my entire life. It's inexcusable. It is inexplicable and we should seriously consider benching him.”

Well, Daniel got his wish because as mentioned, Richardson was benched.

And yes, he was a little harsh, but was that unwarranted? I do not believe that.

Richardson struggled with injuries his first two years in the league, but in terms of playing time, he didn't get a lot of mileage.

He has appeared in four of the team's eight games so far this season, compared to just four last season.

The NFL season is a marathon, not a sprint, and the man named QB of the Colts franchise is so tired that they have to replace him in favor of a man who has appeared in nearly 200 games.

This is a problem, and it will be fascinating to see how the Colts handle this situation in the coming weeks.
